In 2009, the F-150 saw a major transformation including an updated body shape, luxury features, and heated seats. During the seventh generation, new engine options became available, including the 3.5-liter Ecoboost and 3.7-liter V6s. For V8s, 5.0 and 6.2-liter engines also became available. In 2013, the MyFord Touch infotainment system became available. The 2013 model was rated especially high for its safety scores and passenger space.

The 2009 model ranked #1 in the U.S. News list for “2009 Full-Size Pickup Trucks,” and the 2010 model won the U.S. News award for “2010 Best Full-Size Truck for the Money.” The 2010 model also impressed reviewers due to the highest towing capacities in its class and high-quality interior.

The seventh-generation F-150s consistently ranked high for its luxurious interior, high towing capacity, new features, and reliability scores. The seventh-generation helped transform the F-150 from not only a work truck but into a truck for the entire family to enjoy.

Eighth Generation F-150 (2015-2020)

The eighth-generation F-150s used aluminum for the body panels, in an effort to reduce weight and thus improve fuel efficiency. The 2015 model received high marks for its excellent max towing and hauling limits and impressive handling. This generation of F-150s has improved gas mileage and includes features such as LED headlights and automatic start-stop.

The 2020 model standardized a 10-speed automatic transmission across all engines and expanded engine availability in lower trims. At 250-450 horsepower, the last model of the eighth generation has a powerful engine perfect for hauling and towing. The 2020 model also has improved fuel economy, with 15-21 mpg in the city and 18-28 mpg on the highway.
